Phun Technology and Science

Students in LA 2-6 worked on designing and creating either a wooden catapult, water wheel or pull-along toy. First students researched these technologies and learnt about the forces and energy involved. Students looked at many images in books and online to help them plan their own design. Next they drew a labelled design on A3 paper that clearly showed how their model was to be constructed. Students then set about creating a working animation of their model using Phun (software). They also made their designs out of wood. Here are some Phun designs students created.

  3. Hi. I’m from the Comox Valley and I wish I could make wooden catapults, water wheels or pull-along toys. Is the point of it is to keep it tower standing? Or making it fall down?

  4. I’m in grade 6 in Mrs Braidwoods class and I am amazed by the tecnology in your class. What website did you use for the animations?!?

  5. Thanks for your comment Greg. The kids used a program called Phun. You can download it free from the internet.

  6. Witch one?

  7. Mr Weatherill – I loved the animation, I have done many types of technology with my classroom, but have not incorporated the animation software of Phun into it, which I think is an incredibly clever idea, the students would have loved that, its a great idea that I think I will have to use in my own classroom!

  13. Perhaps not this year unless some of my students chose to keep on creating in their own time. It is certainly something I will do with my class again in the future.

  14. Hi, I love science too, I can’t wait till we do experiments in our class.
Last year we studied the human body I find that stuff fascinating. Science would be my favorite subject in school.

  15. Hi I’m Ian from the USA. That would be a lot of fun. What is it like in Australia. It is really cold up here. Comment on my blog at http://iayers3.edublogs.org/. Are you in the center of the island or on the beach? I live in Michigan, by the capitol. Please comment.

  16. Hi Ian, our school is in Adelaide within the state of South Australia. Our school is only a few kilometres from the coast. It is very hot here at the moment with some days above 40 degrees celcius. Thankyou for your comment I shall direct my students toward your blog.
